Harry Newman

A superb painting, by Harry Newman featuring children wading and playing in shallow water with a woman close by. Newman was a New York modernist painter, a member of the famed Salagmundi Club as well as a frequent exhibitor at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, and the Chicago Institute of Art. Newman was a Pre-Raphaelite landscape and still life painter. (Please see WHO WAS WHO IN AMERICAN ART). He was one of the first significant American painters to paint in Florida, specializing in detailed flower and vegetation studies, usually rendered in superlative color. PROVENANCE: Acquired from a New York estate.
