Rembrandt Peale, N.A.
American (1778-1860), O/C, 16" (H) x 20" (W)
This is a superb painting by Rembrandt Peale, the noted portrait painter. Particularly famous for his works of George Washington, this particular landscape is probably from his travels in Europe, which were quite extensive. This painting is very similar to one that was sold at Shannon’s Auction in 2005. His paintings are part of the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery, the White House and the U.S. Senate and many other institutions. He was a founding member of the National Academy of Art. Housed in the original frame.
