Soren Emil Carlsen
American (1853-1932), O/B, Image: 16" (H) x 20" (W)

This garden painting is believed to have been done at the hand of Soren Emil Carlsen, one of the most important American painters in more recent American history. This oil painting depicts a garden reflecting pool with a marble fountain. You can see that the quality, color and composition is exceptional. Carlsen was an American painter associated with the Cos Cob Art Colony. He was an art teacher for over fifty years. This painting, from a Rhode Island estate, was thought by the owner to be by Carlsen and in terms of techniques is very similar to Carlsen’s work. A member of the National Academy, Carlsen had an impressive record as artist and teacher.
