Ito Yoshiko
Japanese (1867-1942), WC, 12.5" (H) x 19.5" (W) Signed l/r, "Y. Ito"
A superb watercolor by Yoshihiko Ito of a Japanese temple in a Spring mist. This exquisite painting typifies the misty landscapes Ito loved to paint. The painting is thought to date from 1910, and given its age, its colors are vibrant. Ito Yoshihiko (Yasuhiko) was a Western-style painter. Fond of painting as a child, he studied first under Tamura Soritsu in Kyoto. He helped organize the Kansai Art Academy, later becoming its director and his paintings received special recognition. Ito’s watercolors have been attracting devotees worldwide, with great auction results in world capitols.
