Virginia Banks
American (1920-1985), O/C, 22” (H) x 28” (W), Framed: 26" by 32” Signed
This painting has the quality with bold and vigorous brushwork, a complex blending of colors and a strong composition. Banks is known as an abstract expressionist. Banks not only was a strong artist but a teacher at the University of Iowa. The Univerisity of Washington library wrote the following about her: "Virginia Banks, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, was born in 1920. She received her bachelor degree from Smith College in 1941 and a master of arts degree from the University of Iowa. After her marriage to Arthur W. Freidinger, a psychiatrist, she moved with him to Seattle in the mid-1950s. Banks created paintings in watercolor and oils, and worked in other media as well. She held shows of her work in both Seattle and New York City.” Provenance: Acquired from a San Francisco art dealer.
